Mac Demarco Biography : A Guide to the Life of an Influential Rock Star

Mac Demarco is a singer-songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist from Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He is best known as the frontman of an indie rock band, the Neighborhood.

He began his musical career in 2009 with his first mixtape, entitled A New Record, which was released by his record label, Demarco Records.

 Mac Demarco was born in Toronto, Ontario, on June 14th, 1986, to parents, Mary Ann (née Gollins) and Richard Demarco. He attended St. Michael's College School and St. John's College High School, graduating in 2004.

Mac Demarco began performing as a drummer in bands as early as elementary school, playing in bands such as The Spazmatics and the Dudes. He went on to study music at York University and received a degree in Recording Arts in 2007.

Early Life

Early life Born in Burlington, Ontario, he grew up in Thorn hill, a suburb of Toronto. He attended Thornlea Secondary School and later attended York University, where he received an honors degree in English Literature and History. After graduating from York, he moved to New York City to pursue music full-time.

Mac Demarco is currently married to actress and model Jenny Gage. The couple has two children together, daughter Nora Demarco and son Cole Demarco.

Awards

Mac Demarco has received many awards and nominations, including the Juno Awards for Best New Group in 2011, 2012, and 2013.

He also received the Canadian Folk Music Award for Songwriter of the Year in 2012. 

Studio Albums

Demarco and Kyle Fielding in 2010 formed the Neighbourhood. Demarco was initially reluctant to join the band, but he eventually accepted after waiting for an opportunity for a few months. 

The band gained a large following. This band also won the award twice, in 2012 and 2013.

Demarco has also released two solo albums, Mac Demarco (2010) and All Things Will Be Well (2014). He also participated in the 2014 documentary, The Neighbourhood Movie. He released another album in 2014 that was Salad Days Mac Demarco.

In 2011, Demarco released his debut studio album, Mac Demarco, which Jack Antonoff produced. The album was met with positive reviews and peaked at number one on the Billboard 200. In 2013, Demarco released his second studio album, All Things Will Be Well, which featured collaborations with Kacey Musgraves, and Paul McCartney.

5. American Satan

Mac Demarco's sixth studio album, released in 2020, is called 'American Satan.' Jack Antonoff produced the album. The album features collaborations with Phoebe Bridgers, Father John Misty, Rostam Batmanglij, and Tanya Tagaq.

In conclusion, he grew up in a musical household, surrounded by a large extended family of musicians. His father played guitar, and his mother played piano. He had a drum kit in his room growing up, and it was through playing the drums that he discovered his talent. He eventually moved on to guitar and started writing songs.
