Certain artists will always be a part of the music scene, not only the fans but also musicians who perform under the same banner. 

Some become singers, others are composers, and a few are singers with their compositions. Among all these, Tim Buckley was the one who became a singer, composer, and painter.

When you hear the name Tim Buckley, you will be surprised by his unique voice and musical style, which is very similar to The Beatles, Elvis Presley, and Janis Joplin.

Tim Buckley was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on May 17, 1950. As a student of music composition at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, he was raised in the suburbs of the Twin Cities.

After graduation, Tim worked as a guitarist in a nightclub in Minnesota called The Rat’s Nest. At the end of 1969, he formed his band, called the Groundhogs, and signed with RCA Records. The Groundhogs released a self-titled album, which went gold. 

However, the band broke up in 1971, after which he became a studio musician.

In 1974, he met vocalist Jimi Hendrix, and the two became good friends. Later in 1976, Tim released his first solo album, Rock Fence Post No. 1, which sold more than 400,000 copies and peaked at number 9 on the US Billboard 200.

Further, his next solo album, Tim Buckley’s Hallelujah Anyway, was released in 1977, and it was certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). In addition, it has sold more than 3 million copies and peaked at number 13 on the US Billboard 200.

More so, he also released a live album titled Tim Buckley Live. In 1980, he released the live album Tim Buckley Live Vol. 2. In 1984, he released a compilation album titled Tim Buckley’s Greatest Hits, which sold more than 7 million copies and peaked at number 4 on the US Billboard 200.

In 1990, Tim released a live album titled Tim Buckley Live. In 1991, he released a compilation album titled Tim Buckley – The Best of Tim Buckley.

He was married to his wife, Linda Lee Buckley, in 1979. The couple divorced in 1983. Afterward, he married his second wife, Lori Bellamy, the daughter of rock musician John Beland. They have a son named Jesse.

In addition, he has been working as a studio musician and has done numerous sessions with various artists. Furthermore, he has composed music for movies like Love and Money and Good Will Hunting. 

In 1998, he released a single entitled “The Great Wall of China,” which peaked at number 12 on the US Billboard Hot 100.

Also, he released a live album entitled Tim Buckley & His Band: Live! The Songs of Tim Buckley. He has also composed several songs for albums like Tom Waits, David Gray, Peter Gabriel, and Paul McCartney.
