Attempting to congeal a compilation of The Beatles' music can be quite the formidable task. After all, they had an astounding number of hits, and there's a slew of album tracks that are just as essential as those singles, if not more. But the double album 1962-1966 (commonly called The Red Album) does a spectacular job of selecting the most major beats from the band's early years, and includes cherished album cuts like "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away," "Drive My Car," "Norwegian Wood," and "In My Life."

Of course, there are plenty of iconic songs not found on the 26-tracks of 1962-1966, and it could've been advantageous to have the Revolver record on the second volume, 1967-1970. But still, this Red Album does a great job at embodying the spirit of the Beatles' pre-Pepper albums.
