Bon Jovi's second album continued with their blend of hard rock and pop-metal, setting the stage for their massive success with Slippery When Wet. Understanding the formula for success, the band incorporated Journey-style synthesizers and soft rock vocals into their black-leather rock sound on 7800° Fahrenheit. This resulted in their biggest hits, including the ballad "Silent Night" and boys-night-out anthem "King of the Mountain." They even attempted a Springsteen-esque epic with "Tokyo Road," complete with a Japanese-language intro and character development. However, their true breakthrough would come with Slippery When Wet's polished songwriting and increased commercial success.
