Tjader pieced together a stellar performance at the Black Hawk in San Francisco during a long holiday season. He had Willie Bobo and Mongo Santamaria in the rhythm section and pianist Vince Guaraldi on board - swinging hard on "A Night in Tunisia" (despite out-of-tune keys). Chombo Silva was invited to play his Cuban tenor sax on "Blue & Sentimental" with a tone reminiscent of Stan Getz. The new stereo recording gear at the club created an exceptionally clear and sharp sound recording.
