Description
This Duke Pearson pre-Blue Note session is rare, yet remarkably soulful. Unlike much of his later work, the quality of this trio recording for Jazzline is unlike any other. Pearson brings his sharp edge to the piano, creating a moody and dark atmosphere that is equally rich in depth. Along with Thomas Howard on bass and Lex Humphries on drums, whose skillful, dancing rhythms are reminiscent of their collaborations with Donald Byrd, this album also features Bob Cranshaw on bass and Walter Perkins on drums for one standout track. Notable songs include a standout version of "Jeannine" as well as "Say You're Mine", "Le Carrousel", "Bags Groove", and "Exodus".
