Benny Bailey, every inch a trumpeter, was the kind of man whose sound would improve any brass section. 'Big Brass', originally released in 1960, was made shortly after Benny returned to America after touring Europe with Quincy Jones's orchestra and the ill-fated Harold Arlen blues Opera 'Free and Easy'.
With the exceptions of Tommy Flanagan and Art Taylor, the men on this album (the first Bailey made under his own name in the U.S.) were part of the Quincy Jones Orchestra.
