The 1977 film titled Black Sunday follows a plot of a terrorist organisation trying to detonate a Goodyear blimp above the Super Bowl stadium, where 80,000 spectators and the U.S. President are present. It is based on a novel by Thomas Harris, known for his works Red Dragon and Silence of the Lambs, and directed by John Frankenheimer.
The film studio Paramount Pictures had high hopes for the success of the film and sought a renowned composer to score the film, aiming to compete with the box office hit JAWS. Following the triumph of JAWS, composer John Williams became a top choice for composing music for action-packed movies. Black Sunday was one of three films Williams scored in 1977, along with Star Wars and Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
