Description
De La Soul's third studio release, Buhloone Mindstate released in '93, saw the group evolve into a new sound as they continued to grow stylistically and musically.
The album showed the band's growth with an instrumental track featuring saxophone and self-referential lyrics, collaborations with Japanese hip hop artists, and samples from Michael Jackson and Smokey Robinson. The album also featured collaborations with Gang Starr's Guru and female MC Shortie No Mas and ended with a Biz Markie collaboration. The album was a critical success with Rolling Stone listing it as one of the best hip hop albums of all time.
