Description
Strut releases a reissued Afrocentric album, 'Chapter Two: Nia' from 1974, on Strata East. Bandleader James "Plunky" Branch explains their move from San Francisco to New York in July 1972 and to Richmond, Virginia in 1974 to create a new creative environment. Their second album, Chapter Two: Nia, features black nationalistic poetry and a cover of Pharoah Sanders' 'Black Unity.' After relocating to the South, Juju incorporates trap drums and a backbeat, evolving into Oneness of Juju and releasing the iconic African Rhythms album a year later.
