Although fans might not have predicted it, Corey Taylor's solo debut is an unexpected party album. For over two decades, the outspoken frontman of Slipknot has delved into self-loathing and nihilism, immersed in anger and constantly picking at wounds.
At the beginning of the pandemic, Taylor went to Hideaway Studios in Las Vegas and left all his worries behind. Instead, he and his bandmates - guitarists Christian Martucci and Zach Throne, drummer Dustin Robert, and bassist Jason Christopher - plugged in and rocked out, creating a powerful sound.
This album may not appeal to fans of Slipknot or Stone Sour's commercial metal style, as it does not resemble their anthemic sound. However, by breaking away from his past musical boundaries, Taylor has created a diverse and carefree mix of genres, drawing influences from country, blues, hip-hop, and punk. With a spirit that reflects the electric energy of wild partying, this album was made with great enjoyment and passion.
