On "Color Schemes," renowned vibraphone player Bobby Hutcherson is accompanied by an excitable rhythm section for a collection of jazz standards and original compositions. Each track offers its own unique highlights, including a bossa nova-inspired cover of Joe Henderson's "Recorda-Me." Hutcherson also collaborates with pianist Mulgrew Miller (who showcases his impressive soloing skills, gradually evolving from the influence of McCoy Tyner) on the touching ballad "Rosemary, Rosemary," an upbeat version of "Remember," and a vibrant duet with percussionist Airto Moreira ("Color Scheme") where Hutcherson seamlessly combines vibes, marimba, and orchestra bells.
