Dizzy Gillespie's often overlooked Cornucopia stands out as one of his best projects. His confident attempts to engage non-jazz listeners on It's My Way, The Melody Lingers On, and Dizzy Goes Hollywood kept him relevant, while Swing Low, Sweet Cadillac on Impulse shows what he could do when free. Producer Richard Carpenter is credited, though arranger Don Sebesky likely led the production with players like Chuck Rainey (bass), Don MacDonald/Grady Tate (drums), Billy Butler (guitar), and Sebesky himself. Sebesky created the jazzy, proto-disco hit "Windmills of Your Mind," a defiant response to saxophonist Stanley Taylor's commercial success with Wes Montgomery.
