Finding Wildflowers (Alternate Versions) (2LP)

Originally released as a Super Deluxe edition of Wildflowers....And All the Rest, Finding Wildflowers features alternate versions of most of the album's songs. Among them are the B-side "Girl on LSD" and two interpretations of "Cabin Down Below," including a nicely disorganized version of the blues track. Unlike the original album, the sequencing on Finding Wildflowers allows for a refreshing listening experience. Opening with the harmonies and jangle of "A Higher Place," this record sets the tone for the rest of the tracks. While these alternate versions may lack the warmth and texture found in the finished album, they offer insight into the easy chemistry between Tom Petty, Mike Campbell, and Benmont Tench. Spotting these subtle differences is part of the album's appeal, but it's the undeniable chemistry that truly makes Finding Wildflowers a worthwhile listen.
