NOFX's 2016 LP, First Ditch Effort, follows their usual SoCal sound: simple melodies, big guitars, winsome bass, and drumming. But the lyrics hold deeper surprises. Fat Mike pokes fun at the drinking, drugs ("Six Years on Dope", "California Drought"), his cross-dressing ("I'm a Transvest-lite"), and low self-esteem ("I Don't Like Me Anymore"), and rails against pharma ("Oxy Moronic").
Sometimes funny, other times sincere ("Generation Z", "I'm So Sorry Tony"), the album shows NOFX can mature and still be true to themselves.
