Following a similar pattern as Atlantic Crossing and A Night on the Town, Foot Loose & Fancy Free lacks the distinct fast and slow sides, making it a lackluster effort from a now complacent Rod Stewart. Aside from the risque "Hot Legs," the rock songs blend together and there is a lack of strong ballads to redeem the album. The tender acoustic track "You're in My Heart" was the standout hit, but Stewart truly shines only on "I Was Only Joking," which closes the album and almost feels like a plea for forgiveness for the uninspired, formulaic record.
