Jimmy Smith switched to Verve in '63, lasting until the '70s. Got My Mojo Workin' (1965) finds Smith combining organ/guitar swingers & big band charts courtesy of arranger Oliver Nelson. On the first half, he tackles Stevie Wonder's "High Heel Sneakers," Jagger's "Satisfaction," & more. His Ray Charles-like vocalizing continues on the Muddy Waters title track, but not on the big band pieces, including "Johnny Come Lately" & Duke's "C-Jam Blues," with help from Burrell, Royal, Woods, Carter & Tate. Not a top Smith release, but one dedicated fans will enjoy.
