After the emotionally charged Plastic Ono Band, John Lennon returned to traditional ground with Imagine. It maintained a softer exterior yet was similarly personal to its predecessor, with "Jealous Guy" revealing vulnerability, "Crippled Inside" taking a sarcastic stab at someone, and "Imagine" serving as a tribute to peace. Lennon also incorporated harder rock elements with tracks like "How Do You Sleep," a scathing critique of Paul McCartney, "I Don't Want to Be a Soldier," an anti-war anthem, and "Give Me Some Truth," a biting hard rock ballad. While Imagine may not cover expansive themes like Plastic Ono Band, it remains an exceptional collection of songs for Lennon.
