Sanders takes the lead on this album, featuring no-nonsense tenor in a quartet with pianist John Hicks, bassist Walter Booker, and drummer Idris Muhammad. He performs the classic "It's Easy to Remember" in a style that harkens back to early-60s Coltrane. Plus, two of Sanders' own works, including the passionate "You've Got to Have Freedom," show off the group's impressive musicianship. While Sanders may not reach for the highest notes, he still plays with finesse and spirit.
