Description
This 2011 debut album by New Zealand producer Lord Echo is a variety of boogie, funk, psychedelic dub , futuristic soul, nu-jazz, and African rhythms. This release became a cult classic through word of mouth, made known by Gilles Peterson on his BBC Radio 1 show, Richard Dorfmeister (of Dorfmeister & Kruger, as you can imagine this was big in Germany) and Oliver Lang of Soulsides.
There are a variety of instrumental and vocal tracks weaved in, some great vocals I might add, from Leila Adu and Mara TK and Lisa Tomlin with a nice cover version of Pharoah Sanders "The Creator Has a Master Plan" (everybody seems to love to cover that one). A great album for a music lover, player, collector, made by someone who loves music, for everyone who are serious listeners and lovers of music.
"Lord Echo thoughtfully incorporates club reggae rhythms and a production aesthetic redolent of the '60s into an expansive pool of sounds that draws from 1970s West African clubs, quiet storm-era Motown, Caribbean disco and more." - Pitchfork
