The Melbourne band Pearls, inspired by the 1981 Elkie Brooks song "Pearl's A Singer", refer to their sound as "glam-pop". On their debut album Pretend You're Mine, the guitars create a large soundscape filled with shimmering stars. The slightly gritty male vocals are mixed with a reverb-laden guitar lick on Better Off Alone that pops out of Twin Peaks. With a distinct rhythm, Big Shot is a powerful way to open the album, though it brings to mind Tame Impala's Elephant. With a strong percussive presence, the vocals are mysterious and attention-grabbing, leaving the listener wanting more.
