Ted Nugent was thriving in the '70s, packing arenas & selling millions of records. He tried to keep the hot streak alive by releasing State of Shock, his fifth solo effort. It featured “Paralyzed” & other tracks like “Bite Down Hard” & “Snake Charmer.” But other rockers & the ballad “Alone” lacked the manic energy typical of his work & its tracks had dull lyrics.
Despite its short stay in the U.S. Top 20 & disappointing sales, Nugent & band promoted the album throughout 1979 & 1980, performing “Paralyzed” on “Fridays.” By then, Nugent's legacy was secure.
