McCoy Tyner's Supertrios album features two all-star trios - Ron Carter and Tony Williams, and Eddie Gomez and Jack DeJohnette. Of the two, the Tyner/Williams combination is the more impressive, with Tyner's interaction with Davis' former bandmates producing six excellent pieces. The Gomez-DeJohnette collab also shines, with four original Tyner songs plus two covers. Throughout, Tyner is visibly invigorated by his peers, resulting in a truly exceptional record. Highly recommended.
