Sweet Rain is a short but emancipated masterpiece that finds Stan Getz and his smooth tenor sax fronting a group of younger players, with Chick Corea holding down the piano much like one would expect from Bill Evans, along with Grady Tate on drums and Ron Carter on bass.
The most dynamic change here is that producer Creed Taylor managed to take Stan through his most commercially successful period with Verve Records, where Getz delicately and expertly balances his past coolness with the light rain dappled shimmering and warm Bossa Nova that’s been paired with a mildly tougher idiosyncratic notion of post-bop.
