Georgia Gibbs had a terrific voice and was very versatile and on this album, she covers a collection of swinging standards ("'Deed I Do," "I Get A Kick Out of You," "I Got It Bad And That Ain't Good," "You've Gotta See Mama Every Night," etc.) and proves that if she had concentrated on this type of music, she could have been a world-class jazz club singer.
She is ably supported by a terrific quartet, featuring Buddy Weed on piano and Tony Mottola on guitar. It's no surprise that it was rereleased on audiophile vinyl as part of the Shinseido Jazz Collector's Special II series. Japan has a large fan base for '50s American female jazz singers. They know and appreciate the best talent in that genre, and they give Georgia Gibbs the respect she deserves.
