In terms of variety, this set certainly does not disappoint. Throughout, we are treated to the exceptional talents of drummer Tony Williams in his duets with keyboardist Jan Hammer, as well as in a quartet that includes keyboardist Herbie Hancock, Tom Scott (though he only plays lyricon) and bassist Stanley Clarke. The set also features collaborations with rock guitarist Ronnie Montrose, keyboardist Brian Auger, guitarist George Benson, and tenorman Michael Brecker. While much of the music leans towards fusion rather than straight jazz, there are still many noteworthy moments. However, the standout track "Morgan's Motion" is a powerful and completely atonal collaboration between Williams and pianist Cecil Taylor.
