Hubert Laws, a renowned soul-jazz flutist, made an ambitious attempt to play classical music with a jazz twist alongside Bob James on piano and harpsichord, Ron Carter on bass and cello, and Jack DeJohnette on drums. Airto and David Friedman provided percussion while classical guitarists and bassoonists completed the ensemble. The repertoire included pieces from Debussy, Faure, Stravinsky, and Bach's Brandberg Concerto. However, the transcriptions lacked emotion and the improvisations were too rare, resulting in a somewhat flawed experiment.
