This obscure record was put out by acclaimed producer Creed Taylor under the pseudonym "Soul Flutes". Liner notes allude to one known only as the Fluteman; however, it's clear that Herbie Mann is the flutist. Don Sebesky's scoring is deft and Eric Gale's rhythm and guitar licks feature prominently, while the A&M/CTI rhythm section of Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter and Grady Tate are a highlight. Tracks like "Day-O", "Early Autumn" and "Buckaroo" are perfect for airplay, yet unfortunately this music remains unreleased under its rightful headliner name.
