A potently multithreaded horror film; what seems like a contemplation of grief becomes a tale of unspeakable and enigmatic terror. Complementing this twisted tale is the haunting score by Polish composer Wojciech Golczewski, and three otherworldly rock numbers by Slow Moses and Kleen Kut. Golczewski’s deft compositions embrace the story’s rich dynamic but never try to overstep it.
Golczewski presents a range of delicate and unrefined passages, from dry and creaky strings to ominous electronic hums, and searing synths. With every suspended breath of foreboding and every histrionic blaze, these elements leave an unforgettable impression. "Gas Station" by Phoenix-based Slow Moses and "Teenage Sun" by hallucinogenic are dreamy and bruised songs that provide a whimsical contrast to Golczewski's beautifully terrifying tapestries. The rare "Running Out of Time" by New York-based Kleen Kut is a dark and unearthly rocker that unfolds with phantasmal melodies, encapsulating the emotions of the film with a propulsive, guitar-driven, minor-key strut of otherworldly enchantment. Long after the last note fades, the soundtrack invites us to stay a little longer and take another spin.
